"Family Sized Funnies" is an exhibition of comics in...well, family size!!    Large banners featuring characters from all walks of gay life who face the varied degrees of tolerance and participation of their families in surprising situations. Families that may be radical, modern, alternative or plain nuts... but always sharing the basics of family life: dirty laundry, gossip, chit chat and other extra-large reasons to get a laugh at.

Toy & Novais, who were in another exhibition "SceneTales in Panels" last year (2003), now strike again with "Family Sized Funnies", an explosive mix of Family+Gays+Humor, themed after 2005 one-and-a-half-million Sao Paulo Gay Pride's motto: "Got Family and Pride".

February 2005:
Seen by millions?? We never thought we'd be!!

"FAMILY-SIZED FUNNIES", the new exhibit by cartoonists Sergio Toy and Klaus Novais has just finished its third season in January 2005 in the station Republica of the Sao Paulo underground; a definitely gay area of the city but also passage point for hundreds of thousands of people everyday.

A pioneering project, bringing visibility and raising issues on the (family) life of the gay community to the masses, the exhibit was never left alone during the 25 days it was on display, and had more than 200 full pages of comments filled out by viewers (average is 40 !!): mostly words of support, with the odd 'you must accept Jesus' misinterpretation, just the way we wanted it: creating controversy to generate debate. But what really delighted and amazed us authors was seeing those people of all ages, colors, genders and social backgrounds laughing with gays (and not at gays, as usual) and crowding over to read the strips! Made us feel like we're doing something really worth our while!
